Buteyko Clinic International (BCI) is a global leader in breathing education, founded in 2002 by internationally recognised breathing expert Patrick McKeown.
Educated at Trinity College Dublin (BA, MA), Patrick completed his clinical training in the Buteyko Breathing Method in Moscow under the personal accreditation of the late Dr Konstantin Buteyko. He is a Certified Buteyko Master Instructor with over 20 years of experience teaching breathing techniques to improve health, sleep, and performance. Patrick is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), a Fellow of Buteyko Professionals International, and a Fellow of the International Academy of Breathing & Health. He serves as Director of Education and Training at BCI and Oxygen Advantage, overseeing programs delivered in more than 55 countries and supporting a global network of 3,000+ certified instructors.
Patrick has trained thousands of healthcare professionals worldwide and is the author of The Oxygen Advantage (2015), The Breathing Cure (2021), and The Breathing Cure for Better Sleep (2025). His work focuses on identifying and correcting dysfunctional breathing patterns to support respiratory health, anxiety and panic disorders, stress, and sleep issues.
He also developed Psychophysiological Breath Training (PBT), the world’s first structured breath certification designed specifically for mental health professionals. The Cert PBT course equips psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, mental health nurses, and other qualified practitioners with evidence-based methods to assess and retrain breathing patterns, helping improve outcomes in anxiety, panic, stress, and sleep disorders while integrating breathwork into clinical practice.
Patrick McKeown will be speaking in the Whole-Person Health Conference taking place on Thursday 18th June 2026.
