Towards Advanced Practice in Health Coaching: Cancer & Chronic for Pain
With 1 in 2 of us facing the prospect of a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime and with 43% of us living with a chronic (persistent) pain condition, this session will spotlight the foundational role of health coaching in integrative oncology and the pressing need for a health coaching approach for chronic (persistent) pain support.
Professionally trained health coaches play a vital role in integrative oncology, supporting clinicians, patients and carers facing and throughout a cancer experience, enhancing patient/client engagement with clinical care teams, promoting shared decision-making and a sense of agency throughout the treatment journey. It cultivates resilience, confidence, and proactive self-management, enabling individuals to live well with and beyond cancer. Working with a health coach trained and skilled in pain management changes an individual’s story and experience of enduring pain to improve quality of life immeasurably.
