Dr Sophie Kuizenga-Wessel
Dr. Sophie Kuizenga-Wessel completed her medical studies and began her PhD research in 2012, focusing on children with functional defecation disorders. As part of her research, she spent 1.5 years in the United States working at a specialized motility center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio. After defending her dissertation in 2017, she worked as a physician in public health while completing her studies to become a sexologist.
During this period, Dr. Kuizenga-Wessel also deepened her expertise in nutrition and lifestyle medicine, leading her to establish her own practice, Mind Your Gut, in Amsterdam. In her practice, she combines her conventional medical knowledge with insights from complementary medicine, offering a holistic approach to treating gastrointestinal disorders. She treats both children and adults, focusing primarily on gastrointestinal issues, with a special emphasis on pelvic floor health and sexual well-being, thanks to her expertise as a sexologist.
Dr. Kuizenga-Wessel has published numerous papers in leading medical journals. She is also a speaker at international conferences and a dedicated advocate for integrative medicine, combining clinical practice with lifestyle interventions. Her practice integrates traditional medical approaches with nutrition and lifestyle medicine, reflecting her belief in the power of combining diverse medical perspectives to achieve optimal health outcomes.
