Dr Leona Gilbert

CEO, Texted Oy, Associate Professor in Cell and Molecular Biology, Finland

Dr. Leona Gilbert is CEO of Tezted Oy, a university spin-off focused on improving how complex chronic illnesses—particularly those involving persistent infections and immune dysregulation—are identified and assessed. An Associate Professor in Cell and Molecular Biology with a PhD in Biotechnology, she brings decades of academic and translational experience to the development of clinically meaningful diagnostic solutions that support earlier, more accurate decision-making.

Leona’s work sits at the intersection of discovery science and real-world clinical need. Her research has explored how persistent viral and bacterial pathogens may contribute to immune dysfunction, including pathways relevant to autoimmunity and chronic, multi-system symptom profiles. She is known for building interdisciplinary collaborations—working closely with clinicians, microbiologists, physicists, engineers, and patient communities—to translate emerging biology into practical diagnostic platforms that enable more personalised care. Dr. Gilbert is also a committed mentor and has supervised and supported numerous PhD, MSc, and BSc researchers. At the core of her leadership is a clear goal: improving patient outcomes through science that listens carefully, tests rigorously, and delivers solutions clinicians can trust.
