She trained in Medicine at the University of Oxford and in Palliative Medicine in the West of Scotland to consultant level. In 2014, she founded the National Centre for Integrative Medicine (NCIM), a not-for-profit social enterprise, focusing on clinical, education and community as well as a membership service connecting those passionate about advancing an Integrative Healthcare model that prioritises whole-person wellbeing.
Part of the movement for change in healthcare includes a focus on education, which led Dr Thompson to set up an accredited 2-3 year master's level 7 Diploma in Integrative Healthcare, focusing on clinical, business and research elements to support healthcare professionals into a career in Integrative Medicine.
