Good Stuff, Bad Stuff ' What's Got Into Your Brain?

20 Jun 2025
The Whittle
The brain, like any other part of the body but even more so, needs the right nutrients (the good stuff) to thrive and function well. It can be severely impacted by lack of the good stuff and/or by the presence of the bad stuff – toxic chemicals from our polluted environment, which find their way into us through our mouth, nose and skin – and can penetrate the blood-brain barrier. Most industrial chemicals are lipophilic (they dissolve in fat) so they head straight for the fattiest organ – the brain. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that environmental pollutants play a major causative role both in mental illness and in the disabling neurological diseases which are increasing at an alarming rate in our population. However, if we know what’s out there, we can protect ourselves. There are plenty of ways to put the good stuff in, keep the bad stuff out detox what is still in there.
