Healing the Healers: Nature-Based Approaches to Healthcare Professional Wellbeing
Speakers will share emerging evidence, programme outcomes and practical insights from initiatives supporting NHS staff and blue-light workers, highlighting how connection with nature can help address burnout and support sustainable wellbeing in the healthcare workforce.
- Dr Lucy Loveday will share insights from nature-based retreats co-facilitated on Dartmoor with Professor David Peters, designed to address burnout and restore wellbeing among healthcare professionals. Drawing on emerging qualitative findings published in the BHMA Journal of Holistic Healthcare and Integrative Medicine, she will reflect on key themes and learning from this developing work. - Ian Boyd will present the evidence base underpinning the Mind Over Mountains approach, which combines nature, physical activity, mindfulness, human connection and professional coaching to support mental health. He will also share outcomes from therapeutic outdoor retreats, including programmes for blue-light workers, and reflect on how nature-based interventions may contribute to mental health recovery and reducing health inequalities. www.mindovermountains.org.uk
- Jen Morgan Drawing on the Out in the Field retreat programme established in 2022, Jen Morgan will share how nature-based experiences and mind–body practices are being used to support NHS staff wellbeing.
