Resveratrol is a stilbenoid with anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular, neuroprotective and anticancer activities. However, its lipophilicity, instability and low bioavailability limit medical use. To address this, encapsulation strategies have been explored, including lipid carriers and nanotechnology. Liposomes are spherical lipid vesicles that can encapsulate both hydrophilic and hydrophobic payloads. When modified with TPGS, a widely used non-ionic surfactant which has gained predominant interest due to its role in improving drug emulsification, solubilisation, stability, and penetration, they form an effective delivery system. TPGS-modified liposomes are able to overcome the hydrophobic nature of actives like Resveratrol and improve its therapeutic effect.
